"Begin somewhere: you cannot build a reputation on what you intend to do."

Charitable Auction is an on-demand web-based application James and I created to help charities run small auctions. These charities often host silent or private auctions, and the big auction sites (like eBay) just don't work for this type of requirement.

While walking into work one day, a conversation began between myself, James, and another team member running a silent auction for the Inland Northwest Alzheimer's Association. It was a long walk, and it was fate that we all pulled into the parking lot at the same time and parked next to each other.

The problem with most silent auctions is that it requires the user to come to the product. There needs to be display booth, facilitator, security considerations, etc. Rarely does the bidding get competitive, and this results in lost revenue.

So, James and I decided to deliver -- in the period of 7 days in our off hours -- a scalable web solution to bring the auction to the people.

Not only does the solution save tons of time by offering some great reporting capability, it also eases item management and general administration of the event. Participants can check items they're winning, as well as items they've been outbid on. They can also bring in family members or anyone else that might not have physical access to the auction, adding exposure and increasing the revenue even more.

In the the past two years, we've been delighted to support the Inland Northwest Alzheimer's Association in doing what we do best: code. The feedback has been extremely positive ... revenue surpassed all expectations and the participants had a blast.
